SUMMARY

BAUER COMPRESSORS INC. is currently seeking a part-time Web Designer.   The qualified candidate must be able to create websites from scratch, starting with the design concept and follow through the development process while acting as the liaison between the IT department and the requestors of web projects. The qualified candidate will have a creative background that combines graphic design, web technology and an understanding of web standards, usability and security as well as familiarity with Windows 2003 IIS 6.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Include the following and any other duties as required:

  • Analyze, design and create attractive and effective web content, including websites, features, forms, graphics and other interactive elements.
  • Maintain and update existing websites on a daily basis.
  • Maintain and update existing Intranet websites on a daily basis.
  • Have thorough knowledge Drupal systems and understand Drupal’s hook system.
  • Have thorough knowledge and understanding of JOOMLA systems.
  • Update, install and modify modules for Drupal.
  • Create, test and restore backups for Drupal.
  • Create and maintain E-Commerce website (Bauer store) using Ubercart and Drupal.
  • Create custom views and blocks for content in Drupal.
  • Transfer websites and various files using FTP.
  • Recommend and initiate improvements to websites, operating procedures and the use of technology.
  • Research documentation, scripts, and technology to meet the objectives of projects.
  • Keep all jobs on schedule.
  • Design, create and maintain company intranet.
  • Act as the liaison between company and current web hosting group.
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization.

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   These duties are desirable and sometimes necessary, but not as essential as the above duties.

  • Design new and maintain existing Access programs.
  • Work with graphics design department on special projects.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

High level of responsibility is expected to ensure that the websites stay up to date with not only current information but also in design and functionality. The qualified individual must be able to multi-task, be very detail oriented and alert, and, above all, stay on top of current technological trends. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not consist of any supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Certain knowledge, skills and abilities are minimum competencies required for job performance. 

  • Two to three years experience in Web and graphic design required. Experience using graphic software packages (Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and Dreamweaver preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of typography, Web coding standards and ability to edit HTML on multiple platforms. Experience using Web standards such as C+, Java/Javascript, HTML/PHP, ASPX, Flash Actionscipting and XHTML/XML is desirable.
  • Development experience on any of the following portals- Sharepoint/MOSS, eXo Portal, BEA WebLogic Portal.
  • Knowledge of SEO preferred but not required. Also, knowledge of MSSQL 2000, 2005 and MySQL helpful.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE    

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certifications/degree or applicable years experience.
  • 2-3 years experience in website design/development.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work Hours: Hours will vary between 24 and 30 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduling.
